F--- radar !

A few days ago, they started flashing a new sign on those big lite up boards over the 401 in the GTA,It reads "NEW..$155 FINE FOR TEXTING OR EMAIL WHILE DRIVING"
Well I think that's probably a good idea, texting takes the drivers concentration away from the road probably even more than talking on the phone.from my experience anyway.
But,before we start making up new laws,do you not think that it might be a good idea to inforce the ones that already exist ???
Let me tell you what I see on the roads everyday, being a trucker and all.
It is not a stretch to say nowadays that you probably will NOT get a speeding ticket if you don't go over 130 km on the 401 corridor.
I haven't seen the speed limit sign that says 130..the only one I keep seeing is the one that says 100 km
First they slow down the trucks to 105 ,enforced by the MTO,and now the level of tolerence for passenger cars has gotten so high that you have a big difference of speed between cars and big trucks.and that means ,less reaction time in case of emergency,Big ,nasty accidents in the making for sure.
Their is a solution,
First bring up the speed limit to 110km like it is most everywhere else in north America.and take away the tolerence level.
This could be done over a period of time giving the drivers plenty of notice and warning that after a while tickets will be given for anything over 110km.
After that, what we need is politiciens in Toronto or Ottawa to grow some Kahounahs and stop being afraid of doing things because they think it might hurt their chances of being re-elected and start doing things that they know are good and safer for the public.
Like re-installing Foto-radar,or photo-radar,of course.
Other states and provinces are doing it,it slows down traffic.you don't need police officers risking their lifes and everybody around them while they're trying to go pick the car doing 155 in 5 lanes of traffic full of cars doing 140.
I see this situation almost everyday, except most cops won't try that, and, can you blame them?
This only makes a dangerous situation even worse.
Bring back photo-radar,give people plenty of warning and time to adjust.this would slow traffic down, make the roads safer, and create another source of revenue,versus...uh...I don't know....
raising taxes !!!! sounds like a win-win-win to me.
It works in other places, why not here ?
Photo-radar....doesn't have to be a bad word.
Stay safe out there.
Cheers.

  1. In a world where we all constantly check our cell phones/watches/blackberrys/ etc. to see what time it is. How much time we have before dashing off to the next event that we have scheduled in the few hours before sleep overcomes our rational sense of thought, a world where multitasking has become the norm.. It’s hard to remember to slow down. To give every person we encounter our full attention, to see the beauty in the way the wind blows through the trees… Well, I think you get where I’m going…. Let’s shift gears….Slow it down from 130 kms an hour to something a little more rewarding. Something more fulfilling, less demanding; more captivating, less frustrating. I’m ready to give it a shot… twenty-four hours in a day should be long enough no matter what speed you are going.
    Love You!
