I have been going up and down the 401 and many other major roads in North America for years.
I have seen all kinds of people that call themselves "drivers".
Nowadays you have cars that are faster, more powerfull with all kinds of features,
Are these features, perhaps getting to the point that they are not so safe.?
I'm talking about all the news stuff designed to bring the driver more information, like that big monitor that all new cars have somewhere in there dash now,The car companies are giving the drivers the posibility to crank those things up so bright,I'm sure nobody in the back seat could get any rest if they needed it.From my vantage point(being higher up in my truck)I see these cars at night going down the road with a bright white-blue glow comming out of all the windows.
Now I'm no rocket scientist, but I know it is not possible to have a good night vision and see properly what's going on outside your car at night when it's so bright outside your car.
And your mind will naturally pay more attention to what's more prominent to the senses.
Not a problem, say the car companies,we'll just make the headlight brighter.
What a good idea !!!(for those who don't know me yet....insert sarcasism here please..ty)
So now ,if you were to try to pay attention at what's going on outside your car at 130 km/hr,
(and that's a whole other story) you can't ,because your blinded by the lights of the car coming towards you trying to do the same thing.
Kansas(the band)said ;"fight fire with fire" but it might not be the safest thing to do on the road.
So maybe we could all turn down our insde dash lights(yes, they are adjustable),make sure the headlights are adjusted properly i.e. not pointing too high..if you can't do that..your mechanic can.
Try this...on the road at night, outside the city,,turn your inside lights completely off.
You can see outside so much better.your eyes are not strained trying to adjust.
If doing this feels like it's making you too tired...maybe you should not be driving at this time.
Stay safe.
Cheers.
